Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Thursday firmly dismissed speculation over a leadership change in the state, asserting that there is no vacancy for the Chief Minister’s post and no such discussion within the Congress party.
“There is no discussion on a change in the CM position. DK Shivakumar himself said there is no vacancy,” Siddaramaiah told reporters, adding that both he and his deputy would abide by any decision taken by the Congress high command.
His remarks come amid persistent rumours of a rotational leadership formula, under which Deputy CM DK Shivakumar could potentially be handed the reins midway through the term. However, Siddaramaiah insisted that the issue is only being discussed in the media and not at the party level.
Responding to questions about AICC Karnataka in-charge Randeep Surjewala holding one-on-one meetings with Congress MLAs, Siddaramaiah said, “Surjewala clearly stated there is no talk of leadership change. Ask him directly if you want more details.”
Siddaramaiah also noted he had sought an appointment with Rahul Gandhi, but had not yet received confirmation.
Earlier this month, DK Shivakumar also attempted to quash leadership speculation, stating, “There is no change of leadership. My priority is to help our legislators win the next elections.”
He reaffirmed that Congress remains united, and the current outreach efforts by party leaders are focused on strengthening the organization ahead of local body elections and the 2028 Assembly elections.
“I don’t want any recommendation from party legislators. My duty is to keep the party strong and disciplined,” Shivakumar had said.
